Meet Dr. Sanjay,
husband, father, international speaker, teacher, athlete, and horrible surfer who holds board certifications in both Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology.
A note from Sanjay,
I spent the first 20 years of my career in a traditional Cardiology practice, performing invasive cardiac and vascular procedures such as treating emergency heart attacks with Coronary Stent devices, battling blockages in the arteries of the abdomen and legs with balloon angioplasties and other technologies, and performing heart valve replacements through the arteries in the legs (TAVR).
While I loved doing these challenging and rewarding procedures, a few things always bothered me. How do people get to the point that they need me in the first place? What can we do for them outside of prescribing medicines and performing procedures to treat cardiovascular disease and their equally devastating cousin, metabolic disease? How can I help patients to either prevent cardiovascular diseases or prevent a second event without medicines?
Unfortunately, this is where my conventional medicine training failed me and, more importantly, ultimately failed my patients. In “traditional” med school, we really only learn how to treat diseases with medicines and surgeries. If you can believe it, I probably only had about 30 minutes of instruction in nutrition during my 11 years of medical training!
That lead me to find Functional Medicine. Though most people may think of Functional Medicine practitioners as people who load patients up on supplements and order expensive lab tests, at its core, the goal of Functional Medicine is to give the body the tools it needs to reach a state of balance and health naturally. This involves more than just medicines, it requires the deep work of optimizing lifestyle and nutrition, but also optimizing the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our lives.
Without addressing all of these issues, we can never truly achieve Wellness. This is the goal behind the Well12 program. In our program, we teach and empower you to optimize diet, sleep, and stress to help you become the best version of you.
